Challenge

Develop useful approaches to participant engagement and feedback collection to ensure that the programs continue to meet participant needs. Design perennial figures, evaluation goals, and engagement materials that communicate key information and enable feedback loops despite personnel turnover in future years.

This project initially began as a rapid evaluation to understand the experiences of the first two cohorts of Promise Scholars (2022). The output of that project proved so insightful and helpful that I was invited back to elaborate on the evaluation strategy for the Promise Scholars program as well as the Commitment Scholars program (2023).

Approach

  • Adaptive

  • Relational

  • Creative

  • Instructional

Final documentation that chronicles the history and adaptation of the programs:

  • Final report (2022) that was later used to onboard and guide the work of the new program manager

  • Embedded evaluation strategy (2023) that was co-created with the program manager and included:

    • Comprehensive figures that clearly communicate the dynamism and complexity of the programs

    • Sample tools for engaging participants and partners based on contact points already embedded in program

    • Program life cycle visual, along with suggestions for how and when changes may be implemented

  • One-on-one capacity building, leading to higher confidence and excellent work by program manager

Result

Partner feedback

Paisley played a pivotal role in helping me develop an outstanding embedded program evaluation for the Promise and Commitment Scholar programming. This evaluation has been instrumental in supporting me in my current role as a Student Success Advisor at Queen's University. Paisley's guidance and insights were invaluable, and her dedication to excellence is evident in the results we achieved.
